User Reviews

TrainWise is praised for strong, Sean-led programs and a rich tutorial library with a clean interface and supportive community. However, recurring bugs hurt reliability—crashing, data loss, and messy exercise history—along with limited customization and feature gaps (notes, rest timers, nutrition tools). Overall, it offers solid programming quality and education, but stability and feature completeness need improvement to unlock its full potential.
Pros
  • Sean's training programs are high-quality, well-structured, and provide clear progression with no-nonsense guidance.
  • Extensive library of exercise tutorials and clear form demos (100+ tutorials, video guides).
  • Clean, intuitive interface and overall design that helps users follow plans and track progress.
  • Supportive community and transparent updates from the team (e.g., Discord activity and responsiveness).
Cons
  • Major bugs causing crashes, saving failures, and corrupted or lost workout history (exercises being overwritten or deleted).
  • Inconsistent data tracking and history integrity (weights/reps from one exercise appearing on another, zero-exercises saved).
  • Limited customization and features (no notes on sets/exercises, few replacement options, no rest timer, limited nutrition/tools).
  • Pricing concerns and lack of a trial or clear value justification.

Hey Sean, This is pretty pricey. I want to try but not before trying the app. Providing a free trial would greatly increase signup.

Hello! First and foremost, I want to say that I’m a huge fan of Sean N. I’ve been following him on Instagram for several years and genuinely enjoy his content, which is exactly why I wanted to give TrainWise a try. One thing I found disappointing right away was that there’s no ability to explore the app at all before committing to a paid subscription. Despite that, I decided to purchase the quarterly plan to see what the app had to offer. Unfortunately, after spending time with it, I have to say I’m extremely underwhelmed. From my perspective, the workout programs, nutrition section, and supplementation guidance all feel very basic and minimal. The workout plans themselves don’t offer anything particularly unique or advanced. You choose a category such as full body or push/pull, and then you’re essentially given a limited number of workouts. For someone training 4–5 days per week, there are many free apps on the market that provide similar or even better functionality. The nutrition aspect was another major disappointment for me. While there are some recipes included, several of the recommendations are simply premade products like protein bars and some recipes can be time consuming to make. Overall, the nutrition side feels incomplete and somewhat lazily executed. I also didn’t feel like the meal recommendations were truly tailored to the goals the app asks you about during setup. Tracking nutrition is also frustrating. The app doesn’t clearly guide users on how much they should be eating based on their goals, and when logging meals, I have to manually calculate and enter my own protein, carbs, and fats every single time. There’s no convenient option to save recurring meals, such as a breakfast I eat daily, which feels like a major oversight for a fitness app. Another issue is that the app only seems to track calories and protein clearly, while carbs and fats are not easily viewable throughout the day. For an app focused on fitness and nutrition, that feels very limiting. I paid around $70 for the quarterly subscription, and personally, I can’t justify the value based on what the app currently offers. I can’t speak for everyone else, but for me, it feels overpriced considering there’s nothing particularly innovative or premium compared to other apps available today. I did reach out to support regarding my concerns and was met with a generic reply. “”Thank you for your message. We're so sorry to hear that you aren't completely satisfied with the app and appreciate you taking the time to reach out. We have shared this feedback with our team to be reviewed. Your support means everything to us, and we hope you'll continue on this journey with us. Should you need any further assistance going forward, please let us know. Kind regards, Andrae”” Although the app is underdeveloped and basic, I still am a huge follower of Sean N. And his content he puts out.

I’ve been using this app for the past three months and I honestly have loved it. There are the occasional glitches in the app where it froze or didn’t save something but for the most part it’s been great. The workouts, tutorials, and exercise swap features all for a wide range of equipment and gyms. I live in an area where the only place open early enough fr is Planet Fitness and I’ve been able to get very solid workouts in despite the limitations. So aside from the occasional tech issue and the lager process tag, I would say it’s worth it!
