User Reviews

I started my sight reading journey with Notaforte and was a great starter, but I quickly bumped up against the limitations of the program. Once I learned one octave I stopped progressing because the piano keyboard they provide is only 12 keys and it stunted my learning by playing, for example, all the “C” in several octaves on one key, not letting me develop keyboard awareness for WHICH “C” I was playing. Also, there is no option to plug in a Midi USB keyboard to get around this limitation. There is a pitch recognition feature, but it’s not program wide, so even sitting at a piano for all lessons won’t help. Since I use this on my iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard, the screen won’t rotate, so it use Notaforte, I have to hold my iPad on its side but must rotate the whole thing to switch between using the app and typing. It’s cumbersome. I’ve since switched to “Notevision” on my iPad Pro which has all of those features (most importantly a wider piano keyboard) and my learning where each note lives on the piano resumed. I would return to Notaforte once they include these features, as I love the interface and prefer it to the rest of the sight reading apps.

We absolutely love this app. Both my husband and I were impressed at the teaching method. Our 6 year old is showing big improvements in learning how to read sheet music as she learns guitar along side.

The “free” version is too locked to be able to evaluate it. I suggest you offer a free trial period so that users can take it for a proper test drive.
