Overview

Features & Capabilities

touch grass: screen time limit helps you reclaim your time by blocking your most distracting apps until you physically touch grass. It leverages smart grass detection with computer vision, tracks your screen time, and offers flexible unblock durations designed for real life. A monthly free skip gives you occasional relief, while premium unlocks unlimited blocking and deeper usage insights.

How it works: you choose which apps to block, then when you want to use them you take a photo of real grass to verify, and you can enjoy your apps with the confidence you stepped outside. This tool is ideal for breaking phone addiction, building healthier tech habits, and supporting rewilding projects (50% of skip profits). Requirements include an iPhone on iOS 17 or later and a patch of real grass.

User Reviews

Users like the concept and report real benefits in reducing screen time and encouraging outdoor activity, with several praising a free starter option. However, frequent issues center on the pricing model and feature limits, reliability bugs, and ease of circumventing the app by using grass photos. A common frustration is the inability to modify restrictions while blocked. Overall sentiment is mixed: effective when working, but hampered by subscription costs and loopholes.
Pros
  • Free version available to start without paying
  • Helps reduce screen time
  • Encourages outdoor activity and touching grass
  • Positive, enjoyable experience with a visually appealing design
  • Provides a simple way to block apps to limit usage
Cons
  • Subscription-based model locks most features; pricing is a major complaint
  • Free version is very limited (e.g., only a couple of blocked apps)
  • Buggy and unreliable (blocks reset, glitches, recognition issues)
  • Grass/ground recognition can be bypassed by taking photos of grass, undermining the purpose
  • Cannot change restrictions or blocked apps while the app is active, causing UX friction

this app is genuinely so useful, i love the concept and design. and when i do go outside to take a pic of grass just to get back on my phone, i end up enjoying nature and spending a while off of my phone. the setup and aesthetics of this app is also just so pleasing and another one of the reasons this app isn’t annoying. thank you so much for making this cause it’s genuinely what i needed ;)

This is the app of my dreams! All the blocks of telling me to take deep breaths or having me do math don't work because they're too easy! Having to actually get up (*even if it's to go to a window and cheat to take a picture from there, more on it later) and move around gives me the time to be less of a zombie. it's the most accountable i've been with my phone! Only complaints: it's a little faulty, as expected! Like mentioned, it will register grass from a second story window when I'm feeling like a slacker, but i can be touching the only patch of green plant in my front yard (mint) and it doesn't count. Not a big problem, i just man up and go across the street to freak the neighbors out by touching their lawn instead but worth mentioning, along with that i love to add how poor i am and how much i wish i could buy full version, but even on the free version this app is great as it can target my main problems!
