Features & Capabilities

Shadow of the Depth is a dark, top-down action roguelike set in a grim medieval fantasy world. Take on the roles of a warrior, assassin, mage, and more as you push through dungeons of light and shadow to root out the monsters ravaging your homeland. After tragedy strikes a village, you join a diverse party venturing into the abyss to uncover its secrets and survive the depths.

Key features include fast-paced, classic roguelike combat with rhythmic hits, a lively roster of characters each with unique abilities, and a deep progression system built from 140+ passives, talents, and runes. User Reviews

Players praise Shadow of the Depth for its unique rogue-like action and rich, replayable content with strong visuals and story. However, the most frequent issues are stability and loading problems, unclear UI and mechanics, mandatory online play with no offline mode, monetization concerns around character unlocks, and RNG-heavy progression with rune and loot balance. Addressing these would enhance the game without diminishing its core strengths.
Pros
  • Engaging, unique roguelike/top-down hack-and-slash combat that's challenging and rewarding.
  • Rich content and high replayability thanks to random generation and diverse runes/gear.
  • Stunning art style and an actual story with cutscenes.
  • Constant updates and quality-of-life improvements show the developers' ongoing commitment.
  • Gameplay feels fluid across devices and offers satisfying progression.
Cons
  • Stability and performance issues: crashes, stutters, and loading problems (e.g., not loading past 40%).
  • User interface and clarity problems: stats/values not visible, uncertain ability mechanics, small evade hitbox.
  • Requires internet and lacks offline mode; multiplayer is missing.
  • Monetization concerns: pay-to-unlock characters and perceived misleading hero choices.
  • RNG-driven progression: rune/fusion randomness, inventory limits, limited rune levels, and unreliable loot drops.
Recent reviews
I want to rate this game 5 starts because it’s so fun and well made for a free game, but the fact that there isn’t a single character you can unlock unless you play for 30 days for the token things is not good. I understand needing to make money, but to have every character cost money is just lame. I would consider spending money if there was just a big discounted pack to purchase every hero instead of having to get coins. Until then, my review stands at 3 stars.
