User Reviews

Shadowborn is praised for its stunning visuals, Diablo-like action, and solid single‑player campaign with varied classes. Players enjoy the core gameplay and many are willing to support with small purchases. However, reviews converge on downsides: heavy monetization and pay-to-progress mechanics, limited endgame content, persistent bugs (inventory losses, mercenary glitches, UI/subtitle issues), and healing/resource imbalances. Controller support requests and localization/UI concerns also appear. Overall, a strong core RPG that needs updates to fix stability, expand content, and soften monetization pacing to reach its full potential.
Pros
  • Stunning visuals and polished 3D graphics on iOS.
  • Engaging Diablo-like action RPG gameplay with loot, quests, and multiple classes for variety.
  • Strong single-player campaign with a compelling story and quick entry.
  • Positive reception and willingness to support the developers with small purchases and updates.
  • Mobile-friendly design and accessible gameplay that appeals to action-RPG fans.
Cons
  • Heavy monetization and pay-to-progress mechanics, with many essential items and healing tied to real-money purchases.
  • Limited endgame content after finishing the current chapter; need updates to add more content.
  • Persistent bugs and stability issues, including inventory losses, mercenary glitches, and UI/subtitle problems.
  • Healing and resource imbalances, with potions and upgrades costing premium currency and not purchasable with in-game gold.
  • Requests for controller support and some localization/UI concerns; controller support is notably missing on mobile.

I won’t lie…. This game looks good, and is fun to play…. until you need to heal your character, or want to access ANY of the top tier items, or skills. Then, you need to spend real money, and lots of it. For even a moderately powerful item, you need to spend at least $5, to purchase in game diamonds, which are necessary for purchasing the item. Some of these items are so important, that you are severely hindered, if you don’t buy them. Same goes for many of the available skills. You need to spend a huge amount of diamonds, which you must pay real money for. If you don’t pay, for a bag of holding, for example, you are EXTREMELY limited in what you can carry, and it can only be purchased if you buy diamonds. If you don’t have one, you are forced to abandon the VAST majority of treasure, and equipment, that you find, or retrieve, from fallen enemies. If you don’t purchase certain skills, you are unable to even use certain items, or incur such severe non proficiency penalties, if you are able to use the item, at all, that the benefits of the item are not enough to offset the penalties, making it not worth using. As far as earning diamonds through regular, free, gameplay, I have played a character that is now 7th level, and I was very thorough, about searching everything, and have found a grand total of 5 diamonds. Even the least expensive items, that require diamonds, to purchase, cost many times that, and the good ones, like a bag of holding, have costs in the hundreds of diamonds. It’s a shame, really. If not for the ridiculously predatory micro-transactions, required to truly play the game, with maximum enjoyment, I would have given this game at least 4 stars, and probably would have given it 5. However, since it is chock full of those, effectively mandatory, ruthlessly predatory, micro-transactions, I have no choice, but to give it a 1.
