Overall, users report a broadly unstable Daily Herald e-edition on Apple devices. The most recurring issues are crashes and instability, difficulty loading pages or accessing the current edition, and login/authentication loops after updates. Many reviewers describe the latest upgrade as a downgrade for usability, with hard-to-read navigation and a less paper-like experience. Additional frequent problems include memory/storage bloat tied to editions and device-specific trouble on iPad. A few users still report it works fine or appreciate features like printing. Overall sentiment is negative with calls to fix reliability first.

  • Content load failures or inability to access current edition.
  • Login/authentication problems after updates.
  • Usability degraded after updates (hard navigation, less readable).
  • Memory usage grows with each edition (storage bloat).

I normally access the Daily Herald on my laptop using Chrome. No issues there. For a change I tried my iPad. Could not believe how bad this app performs on an iPad.

Amazing that a news organization can’t engage a capable company to provide an app which seamlessly delivers current editions, particularly since they are bent on eliminating hard copy home delivery services. The app almost always just stares with the blue cover Daley Herald emblem forever, without even a swirling circle indicating that it’s trying to connect. I have deleted and installed it several times without any difference whatsoever. I’m thinking that the Tribune might be a more grown up option as these kids at the Herald haven’t graduated from business school.

Constant trouble getting it to download. Happens at least once per week. Paige suite tells me to make sure it’s the current version yet never tells me how to check it for updates.
