User Reviews

Users appreciate the familiar print-like design, easy navigation, and broad coverage, with headlines available without immediately paying. However, the app is plagued by stability problems, lacks a search feature, has noticeable gaps in local content and sections, is plagued by intrusive ads, and presents an unclear subscription/paywall model.
Pros
  • Easy to navigate and user-friendly interface
  • Looks and feels like the print edition / familiar layout
  • Covers local and broader news (local, global, Chicago)
  • Headlines are accessible with some free article access
  • Digital edition / print-like experience
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and reliability issues
  • No search function / inability to search articles
  • Local content gaps (missing DuPage/Cook County, neighborhoods) and missing sections (comics, Sports on Radio & TV)
  • Intrusive ads and ad overload
  • Unclear pricing / paywall / subscription model (limited free articles)

Jim Baumann used to be the news editor back at the Daily Herald and now I know The Daily Herald is employee-owned.

I live in Florida now. I lived In Wauconda for my entire life until we moved 6 1/2 years ago. I have had the Daily Harold app on my ipad and phone for 20 years plus. I looked forward every morning to reading your paper with my morning coffee. I looked forward to being informed on “Lake county news” including Wauconda and other northwest suburban towns such as Fox Lake, Lake Zurich, Grayslake, and Waukegan to name a few. Now all I get in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Naperville, and Des Plains. I want to see what is happening with Wauconda sports, but all I get is Fremd, Stevenson, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling. I have had my Herold app for more than 20 years but now the formate has changed. I called customer service to see if there was a different version I needed to switch to and was told “ it is what it is “! So sad that the northwest suburbs is being so neglected.

This app is terrible, and the Daily Herald refuses to fix all the bugs, the last updated version was 3 years ago.
