The Owl Eye test is super simple. First, you go somewhere quiet with good lighting. When the test begins, a circle appears on the screen and every few seconds it flickers to either a diamond or square. You simply count the number of diamonds that appear. After a few minutes, the app shows if it detects signs of sleep issues and suggests next steps.

In the background, Optalert’s ingenious algorithm is processing your every eyelid movement – every blink, every micro-flutter. It then detects the subtle impairment that arises from breathing issues during sleep. The video itself is discarded and only your head and eye data is retained. This builds on Optalert’s world-renowned biomarker, the Johns Drowsiness Scale, that detects drowsiness and is used in sleep laboratories around the world.

The Owl Eye app also features detailed information on sleep health with 92 articles from the Sleep Health Foundation, all reviewed by medical professionals. To top it off, the app lists a range of products for better sleep health.
