Features & Capabilities

USFS & BLM Campgrounds is a Chrome extension that helps you locate United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management campgrounds across the USA. It lists over 5,650 locations, shows which agency administers each site, current weather, elevation, and Flickr photos, with geotag searches and more. Easily locate the campgrounds nearest you, view a route between your location and the campground, and import GPX routes for trip planning. The data is updated monthly and can be viewed offline.

Key features include no ongoing subscription (one-time purchase), multiple map layers (Apple, Google, and OpenStreetMap), and the ability to send location data to the Road Trip Planner. You can view Flickr photos if available, check current conditions at each site, and explore nearby options even without an internet connection.

User Reviews

Reviews are mixed. Many users praise the app for being easy to use and a solid starting point to find BLM/USFS camps, with some calling it worth the money. However, critiques focus on data gaps (many sites missing) and limited campsite details (amenities, open dates, pricing), plus map/UX issues and reliability problems (outdated info, weather errors, tough reservations). Overall, the app shows potential but often falls short on completeness and up-to-date information.
Pros
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use interface.
  • Good coverage of BLM and USFS campgrounds (many sites available).
  • Helpful for locating camping locations and basic planning (weather reference).
  • Perceived good value / well worth the money.
Cons
  • Data coverage is incomplete; many sites are not shown.
  • Limited campsite details (amenities, number of sites, open dates, pricing) in the listings.
  • Map/UI clarity issues (no legend or unclear colors; GPS/location accuracy problems).
  • Reliability and updates concerns (information not up-to-date; weather feature issues; hard to make reservations).
  • Some users feel the app isn’t worth the money due to data gaps and outdated information.
Recent reviews
I bought this app because of the developer’s reply to the review comparing it to a $10 app. That was so refreshing and made me laugh! The app itself is intuitive and so easy to use, and provides an excellent starting point for finding off the beaten path camp sites. That said, I am a bit disappointed there’s no button to start brewing the next pot of coffee from my couch. 😀

Good spot next to scenic view for RV camping. Near to restroom and disposal dumpster bin. Negative is watch for too many flies and bees but didn’t bother us. Be still. You will be ok! Use canopy with screens or bug repellent. Weather is excellent and cool at nights. Propane grills and fire pit recommend.
