Boondocking helps you find free camping spots even when you're offline. It crowdsources 2,100+ locations (primarily in the US) and stores data locally so you can explore without internet.

Key features include offline location details, driving distance/time from your current location, multiple map types (OpenStreetMap supported), the ability to mark favorites, get local weather, discover nearby hiking and biking, view Flickr photos when available, apply filters (water, toilets, big rig friendly, etc.), and share location data with our Road Trip Planner app. No login or subscription is required.

User Reviews

Overall, users like Boondocking for ease of use, informative area details, and the fact that it’s free. However, several reviewers report that the data is not useful for boondocking, with limited spots and outdated descriptions. Additional recurring issues include occasional billing or pricing concerns and some data/map usability problems. When it works, it’s a strong planning aid, but data quality and billing concerns hinder reliability for planning trips.
Pros
  • Easy to use / user-friendly
  • Informative with detailed explanations of areas
  • Free to use / no subscription required
  • Generally helpful resource for boondocking planning
  • Finds place links / helps locate spots
Cons
  • Not useful for boondocking; data is limited and dispersed sites are scarce
  • Data outdated / descriptions are old or not up-to-date
  • Billing/pricing issues (unexpected charges or duplicate charges)

This is a quiet place approximately seven miles west and north from Bethany, Missouri. There are only four camping spots- gravel spots for campers or the grass for tents. There are no facilities or electricity of any kind. It’s a hard packed gravel of about 1/4 mile, so I was able to ride my motorcycle in and park without any trouble. In the distance, you can sometimes hear traffic on the road, but overall it’s just crickets and birds. There’s a stream nearby, and there are rules for fishing posted on the bulletin board. The site is well kept and clean, and one of the fire rings had a stack of wood. It’s a pleasant surprise. I’m sitting here listening to crickets and Bob White Quail, etc..
