User Reviews

Reviewers praise zerocam for beautiful, film-like, natural photos and a minimalist UI. It offers RAW/ProRAW support and solid results on iPhone and some Android devices. However, concerns center on subscription-only pricing (with price hikes and removal of lifetime options), missing basic controls (tap-to-focus, flash, grid), reliability issues (saving failures, grey/black screens), and disruptive upgrade prompts.
Pros
  • Beautiful, film-like, natural-looking photos with minimal processing.
  • Minimalist, distraction-free UI that keeps the focus on shooting.
  • RAW/ProRAW support for high-quality, editable images.
  • Good performance across devices (iPhone and some Android devices), delivering distinctive output.
  • Distinctive, cinema-like look that many users love.
Cons
  • Subscription-only pricing with no clear one-time purchase option, and recurring price increases.
  • Missing essential controls like tap-to-focus, flash, and grid.
  • Reliability issues such as images not saving, grey rectangles, or black screens on some devices.
  • Upsell interruptions and upgrade prompts that disrupt shooting.
  • Pricing changes and lifetime option removals creating frustration and confusion about what was paid for.

Please add the ability to enable “mirror” selfie camera photos! I absolutely despise the way “regular” selfie camera photos appear! I always turn on “mirror” selfie photos mode on even the stock iOS camera app. It’s a huge dealbreaker that this doesn’t have “mirror” selfie photos option. It’s a pita to have to manually go into the photos app and edit it and flip the selfie image horizontally. I really enjoy the rest of this app though! It’s simple, and straight to the point. The zero cam mode is on point too! Looks excellent without all that extra processing.

Overall I really like the photos zerocam takes; they look solid without being over edited. However, there is one issue for me. The controls are a bit poorly laid out/designed for my iPhone SE. the capture button and the buttons to flip the camera/change zoom overlap significantly. It’s usable but it’s a bit of an inconvenience, especially because it’s pretty easy to misclick and switch the camera instead capturing and vise versa. This could be remedied with smaller buttons for both the capture and lens buttons. But overall, the app is pretty solid

This app takes beautifully natural, unprocessed photos, but the mandatory subscription is a complete dealbreaker. Expecting users to rent a camera app forever instead of offering a straightforward purchase is incredibly greedy. Great idea, ruined by the pricing. The devs are probably going to respond with “we’re a small indie developer team”. Ok well you’re part of the problem. Small team or not, you are just feeding the subscription fatigue that is exhausting your users and ruining good software.
