Features & Capabilities

Shimmr is a high-fidelity binaural beats and solfeggio frequencies app with an offline engine for ad-free listening. It features Shimmr Spheres, a drag-and-drop sound mixer, and iCloud sync to keep your custom mixes across devices.

With the mixer, you can modify intensity, pitch, and layers in real time, save your signature sounds, and track progress with a personal heat map and mindful minutes. The app supports Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta states, full-spectrum noise, natural ambience, and presets for sleep, focus, healing, and exploration, all designed around a privacy-first experience.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for its simplicity, reliable meditation/relaxation tones, and helpful features (timer, screen-off, favorites) with a clean, ad-free experience and responsive support. However, repeated concerns center on the paywall: a high subscription price and most features being locked behind it after updates. Several reviews describe the overhaul as reducing overall usefulness and view the pricing as a negative shift, even for long-time users.
Pros
  • Simple, intuitive UI that is easy to use
  • Effective for meditation, sleep, and anxiety relief through binaural tones
  • Wide variety of tones and soundscapes with good organization and customization (timer, screen-off option, favorites, explanations)
  • No ads
  • Responsive, helpful developer who listens to user feedback and updates the app
Cons
  • Paywall and high subscription price cited across multiple reviews (e.g., $60/year or $7/month) making it unaffordable for many users
  • Major updates/overhaul that reduced utility by moving many features behind the paywall, leading to dissatisfaction and perceptions of greed

Been using this app for a while now and I really love it! 5/5 for the overall functionality, the ease of use and the simplicity of its UI. What does irk me is the new streak feature. It is a good idea and gives people an incentive to be consistent—but it’s buggy as heck. Despite doing a session every day, my streak has been reset several times. I haven’t been able to get higher than 10 days before it decides to ignore the fact that I did a session and sets it back to 0. Not sure why it isn’t registering my sessions.

I would like to support the app further, but I can’t afford a $7 monthly subscription. Let me purchase specific tracks for $1-2. Or make the subscription under $5. You do great work but your customers have other subscriptions to afford. You should make some money instead of no money by offering some lower price points. Thanks

I’ve been a user for a long time. One of the first ones, actually. To go back in the app and see that it’s been completely overhauled, for the worse, was shocking. Devs gutted it of almost all of its utility unless you fork over $60 a year. Ridiculous. Deleting just for the principle.
