Review summary
Pros
- Durable hardware with years of reliable irrigation control and proven water savings from weather data.
- Clean, intuitive interface that is easy to operate when the app is working.
- Local network access without a subscription has historically been available, allowing control without paying for premium features.
- Strong value when used without premium connectivity, with users noting long-term benefits and effectiveness when it functions as expected.
Cons
- Core features and remote/local access are frequently gated behind a paid subscription, which many reviews view as a negative change.
- App reliability issues persist, including iOS app spinning, crashing, and frequent disconnects.
- Connectivity and remote/local access instability and outages are common, making control unreliable.
- Customer support is perceived as unresponsive or hard to reach, aggravating users when issues arise.
- Login/password and account access problems (e.g., iPad password requirements, reset issues) add to user frustration.

| 2026-06-01 | da***** | We’ve had a Rain Machine controller for quite a while. They charge a yearly premium to access the controller remotely. It never works. Most of the time the app just sits and spins. I’ve tried Direct Access, Local Network Access and Remote Access. It is completely unreliable. If you need to control your sprinkler system from a distance, stay away from this app and its web brother. Horrible. Not worth a penny. | |

| 2025-12-06 | me***** | I bought this system specifically because it was the one that I did not have to pay a subscription for. Now they’re so hung up on selling a subscription. I can’t actually access the machines functions. It’s incredibly frustrating. Having paid for a piece of hardware to have a company bracket it should be illegal honestly. | |

| 2025-11-22 | Ob***** | I have my rainmachine now for close to a decade. It lives in an enclosure in my garage, but knows exactly what is going on with the weather thanks to it getting the data from weatherunderground where my personal weather station reports. Water savings have paid many time over for the hardware and the subscription. And my neighbors always admire that my yard is so green, even in the hottest summer heat. I had 2 different irrigation conrtolerz from the large vendors before, but the rainmachine is easier to use and overall better in every respect. Can’t live without it! | |

| 2025-09-16 | pe***** | The app on iOS does not work. I see many people complaining of the same issue that the app just spins and spins when trying to connect directly but all customer support can do is repeat the same response about being on the same network between the device and phone, and that it works for the companies employees when they used it at home, etc. I’ve tried it all. Don’t waste your time on this product or app unless you enjoy being forced down to the cloud based solution and pay to use your own sprinklers. Company has been unresponsive to email requests for support. | |

| 2025-09-07 | rj***** | Why is the iPad version now requiring a password to use it? This is new and irritating. I don’t know what my password is and there is no option to change it! I’m locked out of the iPad version now. Luckily my iPhone version still gives me access. | |
