Features & Capabilities

Dayo is a Chrome extension that turns healthier phone habits into real rewards. Teens and their parents collaborate to choose apps, set clear screen-time limits, and name the price. If the teen stays within the agreed limits for 7, 14, or 30 days, the earned money is paid out to Venmo, a debit card, or one of 100+ gift cards. Exceeding limits can reduce earnings in real time, while building a streak increases potential rewards.

Key motivations include a privacy-first, data-driven approach and a no-nag, no-fights strategy. The app emphasizes parental involvement, transparent terms, and flexible cash-out options, including popular brands and services. It also notes compliance with standard terms and privacy policies as part of its user agreements.

User Reviews

Dayo is praised for its concept and user-friendly design, effectively reducing screen time and improving family dynamics by rewarding mindful use with credits that become real discounts. The app’s interface and progress tracking are well-liked, and many users enjoy the motivational messages. However, the rewards are discounts rather than cash, with value limited by stock and per-item limits. Some users report bugs and setup friction, and a few express concerns about privacy and data use. Overall, Dayo works well for many but isn’t universally reliable.
Pros
  • Helps reduce screen time and improves family dynamics (fewer fights, teen motivation).
  • Rewards system with credits/Dayo dollars that translate into real discounts.
  • Easy-to-use, calm design with a simple interface and progress tracking.
  • Motivational messaging and friendly notifications that encourage mindful use.
  • Growing marketplace with diverse brands and regular deals across categories.
Cons
  • Rewards are discounts, not cash, and the value can be limited by the redemption rules.
  • Deals are often limited or out of stock, reducing perceived value.
  • Redemption per-item limits can prevent fully using earned credits on a purchase.
  • Setup friction and some UX bugs; some users must link social-media-based emails; occasional bugs.
  • Privacy/data concerns raised by some users about data sharing and tracking.

I accidentally chose a teen account and there’s no way to undo it - I’m an adult! Also the app totally changed from offering discounts on goods to a totally different model. Not cool.

Like the previous two reviews, I had $1400 in “Dayo dollars” that completely vanished with this silly banana update. I also bought a Powell’s gift card for my mother, prior to the update, that she never got. $80 down the drain. This app is yet another huge scam run by scammers.
