User Reviews
Pros
- Strong, varied programming across tracks (bodybuilding, conditioning, and daily options) that users report as effective for different goals.
- Active, supportive community and responsive team (Jason Khalipa) in the app.
- Easy-to-use UI/UX with multiple workout options and clear structure.
- Flexibility to train solo at home or alongside CrossFit and easily switch up workouts.
- Good value for the features and workouts offered.
Cons
- Difficulty transitioning to the new app: clunky signup and onboarding, with missing features from the old version.
- Frequent performance issues: app hangs/slow startup and general bugs.
- Missing instructional videos, exercise library, and workout explanations in the new app (no videos, no easy verification of moves).
- Timer/clock bugs during workouts (EMOM timing issues, editing/starting problems).

I’m a big fan of the bodybuilding track because I needed to rebuild muscle after taking some time off. Once I’m where I want to be, I’ll probably switch over to the conditioning track.
It’s solid programming you can do on your own alongside CrossFit, especially if you’re working out from home and can’t always get to the gym.
I do wish the bodybuilding track included warm-ups, but I’ve just been making up my own. For the strength and conditioning track, I’d love an option with more advanced movements for people who also do CrossFit. There’s never anything with handstands, muscle-ups, double-unders, or Olympic lifts — it leans heavily toward simpler movements. I end up modifying some sessions to add that stuff myself.
I’m still not totally convinced Playbook is the ideal platform for this program, but it’s workable. It took a little while to get used to, and I do like being able to see all the workouts at once rather than weekly drops. I get why they format it that way to discourage people from copying the programming, but it also makes me wonder how often new workouts will be added and how long the app will stick around. Some people might get bored or just copy everything and cancel.
I also appreciate the simple nutrition guidance, even though I don’t personally need it.
The “for men” branding is a bit odd, but I’m a 46-year-old dad so I guess I fit the target demographic.

Workouts are great but the timer is very glitchy. Randomly can’t edit it, takes multiple restarts.

My wife has used the NCFit app in the past and really enjoyed it. I am recently in between programs and looking to try it, signing up and activating with the newer version of this app is inefficient and clunky. I can’t even speak to the quality of the workout. Going to be $30 donation and a hard pass for me.
