Overview

Features & Capabilities

Coverage Map is a crowdsourced map of cellular networks across the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico that shows real-world performance. It visualizes which carrier performs best in an area and updates in real time as users contribute test results and observations.

The extension includes a Global Speed Test Map, a built-in speed tester, and specialized maps for signal strength (US only) and coverage reports (US only). Filter by carrier, technology (LTE/5G), speeds, and more to compare performance at a glance; view color profiles and distribution graphs to understand network quality.

User Reviews

Coverage Map delivers crowdsourced speed tests and major-carrier coverage maps with a user-friendly interface, but users report frequent glitches, map loading issues, high data usage, and accuracy gaps in coverage data and available carriers. Improvements in background support, data-mode options, and map reliability would help.
Pros
  • Crowdsourced speed tests and coverage data from users, helping assess real-world performance
  • Detailed coverage maps with data from major carriers (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) allowing carrier comparison
  • User-friendly interface with clean design and easy navigation
  • Community aspects like contributing data and potential leaderboard
Cons
  • Frequent glitches and crashes; the app often re-springs requiring restart
  • No background operation; speed tests or maps pause when switching to other apps
  • High data usage; requests for a low-data mode and smaller test sizes
  • Map tiles sometimes fail to load or show inconsistent colors; accuracy issues in coverage by ZIP code
  • Incomplete carrier list and overly generalized coverage (missing some carriers, 100% coverage claims)

I love this app it’s great for checking coverage across carriers without having to use the carrier provided ones which suck. I also like you can run speed tests while driving and log datapoints in the crowdsourced map as well.

The UI fails constantly and requires forcing the app to close and reopening to fix. They really should use native Apple apis rather than multi platform dev tools. The difference is quite noticeable.
