User Reviews

Users praise Penjo for its natural Apple Pencil writing, strong calendar integration, and a clean, fast interface, plus a one-time lifetime license and responsive support. Common concerns center on cross-device syncing and licensing hassles, occasional bugs or crashes, and occasional calendar access issues. Overall, it’s a highly valued journaling/planning tool for Apple devices, with ongoing improvement expected from an engaged developer team.
Pros
  • Excellent Apple Pencil handwriting experience; feels like writing on paper with minimal distortion.
  • Strong calendar integration with Apple Calendar and reminders, letting you see events alongside entries.
  • Clean, fast, distraction-free UI that stays out of the way while writing and organizing pages.
  • Lifetime license / no ongoing subscriptions; one-time purchase.
  • Responsive, proactive support and active user community with ongoing improvements.
Cons
  • Cross-device syncing issues across iPad, iPhone, and Mac; unreliable iCloud sync and some notebooks not opening.
  • Occasional bugs and crashes, especially after updates or when using certain features (e.g., crashes after updates or when using high-impact features).
  • Pricing/licensing confusion and paywalls: reports of being charged despite no subscription and limits like '5 free pages' or friction with multi-device usage.
  • Calendar/features bugs: some users report calendar integration issues or access problems after updates.
Recent reviews
I have gone through plenty of planners and given up after finding too many things I didn’t like about it. Hassles of changing from day to month to week to year, the ability to go from the screen to the next to add a grocery list or things to do list the ability to synchronize with Apple calendar. This one has it all. There are a few things I wish it would do, but those are not big enough to dissuade me from marrying this Penjo Journal/planner.

I don’t understand how it has such high reviews when I use this app it makes my handwriting completely unreadable when I typically have great handwriting. Even the standard notes app isn’t this bad
