User Reviews

AJournal shines with strong calendar integration, deep customization, handwriting-style entry, and cross-device syncing, making planning feel like pen-and-paper in a digital scrapbook. Positive reviews praise templates, stickers, and affordable upgrades. However, repeated downsides across reviews include subscription gating for most features, occasional handwriting and reliability glitches, missing widgets and auto-page creation, and usability challenges. The app is loved for its concept and flexibility but has consistent concerns about cost, stability, and feature gaps.
Pros
  • Excellent calendar integration and syncing with iCloud/Reminders/Calendar across devices (and some reviews mention Siri integration).
  • High customization: templates, pages, stickers, and the ability to import stickers (e.g., from Canva) and add pictures.
  • Handwriting-focused experience that feels like pen-and-paper planning, with flexible decorating and handwriting search.
  • Seamless blend of planning and journaling: usable pages and organization for work/home, plus easy cross‑linking with reminders.
  • Free version available with a reasonably affordable upgrade for more features, offering strong perceived value.
Cons
  • Heavy reliance on subscription: many templates, stickers, backgrounds and advanced features are gated behind a paid plan.
  • Writing/handwriting can be glitchy or unreliable (handwriting disappearing) and some users report not being able to write on tasks.
  • Reliability issues: app instability, pages going blank, designs disappearing, or crashes that affect data and usability.
  • Missing essential features: lack of widgets, no automatic daily page creation, inability to delete pages, and limited options for sharing calendars (e.g., family sharing).
  • Usability concerns: not always intuitive or beginner-friendly, with a noticeable learning curve.

This app has everything I was looking for. I love writing down my to-dos for the day and I love that I can do that alongside all of my digital calendar items. Other journal apps are so clunky with digital calendar importing. AJournal removed all of the convoluted steps. I wish you could import stickers, but you can pull them from your photo library. I also find the templates that you create a little confusing. Otherwise, I really love everything else. I’m happy to pay for the full version and I hope to continue to see them do good work. Edit (1/28/26) to add: I do wish the writing tools were a little better. Like the calligraphy pen could be more fine, overall if all writing tools could be a little more forgiving of penmanship, scratch out to erase would be helpful, as well as hold to draw straighten drawn lines instead of having to use the ruler. Still love the app for its main purpose.

I was really impressed that it coordinated with my calendars and pulled all my events that were listed there into its own calendar, so now when I'm going to add something to a calendar, I just use Siri and add it, and it automatically shows up in me, a journal calendar
