User Reviews

Proton Pass is highly praised for security, 2FA, and the useful SimpleLogin alias feature, plus strong cross-device syncing and an easy-to-use, feature-rich interface with a clean UI. However, multiple reviews cite stability issues (crashes, sign-in prompts, unresponsive controls) and autofill glitches, along with limitations around importing passwords from iOS and limited native-browser extension support. Overall, it shows great potential but needs reliability improvements.
Pros
  • Strong security with end-to-end encryption and built-in 2FA (TOTP) support.
  • SimpleLogin alias integration is a game-changer.
  • Cross-device integration and seamless syncing across the Proton ecosystem.
  • Easy to use, low friction, and feature-rich (many features available for free).
  • Aesthetic UI with a polished, user-friendly design.
Cons
  • Stability and reliability issues: crashes, frequent sign-in prompts after termination, and unresponsive buttons.
  • Autofill problems: inconsistent or failing autofill in Safari/Firefox on mobile.
  • Import/export limitations: no straightforward import from iOS Passwords and restricted browser extensions due to Apple restrictions.
  • Pop-up generation flow glitches: pop-ups closing or keyboard disappearing, making login/alias creation unusable.

I’ve tried for months to report an issue with Pass crashing the native Apple keyboard. One problem is the Feedback form in the app doesn’t work properly. The form itself expands past the screen after you attach a file so you can’t even see what you’re typing. Then you can’t even submit it because it says it’s not in JSON form. The other problem is even when I’ve gotten around that issue, they’ve only asked in turn ask me for a screenshot or recording…absolutely maddening. If you use other Proton products, you’re lucky if they work well enough to allow you to get anywhere. ProtonVPN connection stalls constantly…CONSTANTLY!! Proton Mail doesn’t let you type if there’s no connection (see VPN stalling). Mail can’t even format text on iPhone. Calendar is a joke of a program that can’t even hold attachments. It’s a miserable cycle being in this ecosystem. Their support sucks and their products are inferior to the point of making my smartphone worse than a landline. They just advertise bomb you to buy more of their accounts/products without being able to support their existing services.

Love Proton Pass. It integrates with web browsers all I’ve used in(safari, chrome, brave, Firefox) their app is simple it knows when a site or app is requesting a username/password. After having some accounts become compromised the time to switch to this was well worth it.
