Features & Capabilities

The Oscillator combines dual oscillators and a dedicated noise generator, each with independent lowpass filters and panning for immersive sound. It offers four classic waveforms (sine, triangle, sawtooth, square) and precise tuning in Hz or fractional MIDI notes, ideal for testing audio gear or creating old-school drone music.

Designed for mobile and live setups, it supports Audiobus and Inter-App Audio, allowing real-time audio routing to other compatible apps.

User Reviews

The Oscillator is praised for its simplicity and precise, measurement-friendly tone generation: two oscillators plus a noise source, log frequency scaling, dB gain control, stereo panning, and accurate sine output, useful for testing audio gear, psychoacoustics, tinnitus relief, and sleep. Recurring issues include crashes after updates, lack of independent oscillator control, and common feature requests (third oscillator, LFO, keyboard interface, and presets). Users also note UI quirks and limited wireless options. Overall, a powerful free tool with notable gaps that users hope to see addressed in future updates.
Pros
  • Simple, intuitive oscillator that does exactly what it promises.
  • Precise controls with log-scale frequency sliders and a dB-scaled amplitude for fine-grained tuning across a wide range (20 Hz to 17 kHz).
  • Multiple generators: two oscillators plus a noise generator with stereo panning and detuning for rich tones and testing versatility.
  • Accurate sine-wave output with flat response over a broad range, useful for gear testing and measurements.
  • Very useful across contexts (sleep/tinnitus relief, psychoacoustic experiments, audio gear testing) and delivered free.
Cons
  • Stability issues after updates: users report crashes or the app not launching on some versions.
  • Oscillators are not independently controllable; muting one does not silence it, making mixing additive.
  • Missing core features frequently requested by users (third oscillator, LFO/modulation, keyboard interface, filter, and easy preset saving).
  • UI/UX quirks and confusing status controls (the on/off button can be misleading).
  • Limited wireless output options and compatibility concerns (lack of Bluetooth support and inconsistent WiFi/casting workflows).
Recent reviews
Use it to create simple binaural tones and white noise to sleep. Also gives relief for tinnitus. Used it to test specific hearing loss frequencies. Truly useful free app.

Not working.

Back in the early 90’s… I use to use 100% hardware to DJ in our clubs. Fast forward to today and the entire landscape has changed. While we were concerned with beat matching, it was more of an Ear Game. Our one and only CD player collected dust before anyone would touch it. As I get deeper into DAWs, I’m not understanding all the terminology and what it means. This app has been an incredible help when it comes to the different structures. I can finally understand what I’m doing in this area.
