User Reviews

Radio ID is a highly regarded tool for decoding MDC1200/ QC-II tones with strong accuracy and practical value at a low price. Users praise its usefulness for field work and diagnosis, and its simple mic-based operation. Recurrent downsides focus on compatibility with newer iOS devices, microphone permission issues, occasional stability problems, and gaps in supported formats and documentation. Addressing updates, mic handling, and feature documentation would enhance reliability and broaden appeal.
Pros
  • Highly accurate decoding of MDC1200 and QC-II tones, praised as being more accurate than some alternatives.
  • Practical field tool that helps diagnose dispatch problems and is valued by scanner enthusiasts and public-safety users.
  • Easy to use and effective when placed near the microphone or scanner; simple setup.
  • Low price with strong perceived value; many reviewers call it worth more than $0.99.
  • Still functional on older iPhones despite lack of frequent updates, indicating robustness.
Cons
  • Significant compatibility issues with newer iOS devices and models (XS/X, iOS 12+) and a perceived lack of updates.
  • Microphone permissions/access can cause the app to stop picking up tones and may require manual toggling.
  • Inconsistent decoding for some formats and tone tables (e.g., FleetSync, PPT-ID) with reported inaccuracies.
  • Stability issues at times, including freezing or unresponsiveness.
  • Feature/documentation gaps (logs/notes, aliasing/renaming IDs, manual) requested by users.

I have had this app installed for ages. For decoding MDC-1200, FleetSync, and QCII (and probably more, but that’s all used around here) it’s worked fantastic. The app used to be a little clunky and dated. The new version looks awesome and is way easier to use. I am working on identifying fire toneouts and the ability to add aliases, and keep a count, is a huge addition. A great app made even better!

Trying to decode tones for some reason this app got mentioned in a forum waste of .99 cents does nothing at all 👎👎👎

The app is excellent, it could definitely use an update for portrait layout. I'd love the ability to add a note to the log entries. It would also be swell to have the ability to sort IDs received by type of signaling. Thank you for writing and publishing this.
