User Reviews

Users repeatedly report that Hue Party for Philips Hue often fails to connect to the Hue Bridge, struggles with hub detection, and cannot handle large lighting setups. A common complaint is that scenes only run while the app is open, preventing background control and causing colors to drift or the lights to ignore selections. Many cite issues after updates, including paid upgrades or licenses not working as promised and inconsistent music-sync behavior. Support and documentation are lacking, leaving users without guidance. A minority note it once worked for basic, small-scale lighting and offered depth for power users.
Pros
  • Longstanding reliability for some users, with reports of years of trouble-free use.
  • Good for basic lighting control and offers deeper options for power users.
  • When it works for a small setup, it can manage a couple of lights smoothly and provide scene options.
Cons
  • Frequent connectivity/hub detection failures to Hue Bridge; many reviews report it will not connect or find the hub.
  • Background operation is not supported; scenes require the app to stay open and colors can drift when inactive.
  • Paid upgrades/licensing issues; upgrades not functioning; licenses may require paying again for devices like Apple TV.
  • Poor support/docs; lack of help docs and unresponsive support.
  • Limited scalability with large light counts; not suitable for setups with many lights (e.g., 80 lights).

Followed directions and will not connect. Not user friendly

I bought this with the hope it would drive all my lights since it doesn’t run hue entertainment APIs which limit sync to 10 lights. I have the Philips hue bridge pro and about 80 lights connected. This app does absolutely nothing with that many lights. I bought it because it worked well with the two lights I tested. But after unlocking the full version for one time purchase it absolutely fails. I’d like my money back.
