User Reviews

Beastie Bay blends monster collecting with town-building RPG in a retro-pixel package that many players find deeply engaging and addictive. Praise centers on the depth of gameplay, nostalgic visuals, and Kairosoft’s quality. Common drawbacks include intrusive ads and startup errors, plus a learning curve with unclear tutorials and occasional control quirks. Overall it’s highly regarded for genre-blending, long-term play, and charm, but monetization irritations and technical hiccups can mar the experience for some.
Pros
  • Deep, engaging core gameplay blending monster collection, RPG exploration, and town-building.
  • Nostalgic retro-pixel visuals and charming presentation that still feel polished.
  • High-quality, polished design typical of Kairosoft, with improvements across titles.
  • Strong long-term appeal and replayability with hours of satisfying play.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and ad-related friction; some players report forced ads and inconsistent ad-free promises.
  • Startup/launch issues and soft-locks that prevent play for some users (e.g., 'Cannot start', 'Checking version').
  • Learning curve/onboarding can be unclear; some mechanics aren’t explained well.
  • Control/UI quirks and unintuitive interactions reported by players.

TLDR: Sort of similar to Pokemon but is an older game that other games improve on. Kariosoft is THE high quality game developer for phone games. Like the title says, they do not miss and always improve. This game is the example of my idea. There are mechanics in their other newer released titles that streamline and improve the fundamental game playing for all their games. This one has controls that feel very unintuitive? I found my self tapping alot in the menuing/playing the game that is improved in their other games. I recommend this game, this company and the things they bring to video games but also entertainment. There are improvements to the flow, playability and actual “gaming”in their later titles. I find myself (I don’t look up the wikis for this game before dedicating hours of play time just to see how the game developer handles the issues players like me and others face in the time playing) asking what certain things do again but can’t find a easy to read FAQ. Also this game and many others from Kariosoft are FREE and still look amazing. These types of games scratch the itch for this style of games but lack on solidifying fundamental game mechanics for future playing after you inevitably hit that “idk what to do now” wall. (you have to be an end game player intelligence from the get go)

I beat it years ago and back then on a different phone account paid a little money just out of appreciation for the developers of the game. Just recently I decided to go back and play it through again. This was the first Kairosoft game I ever played and so far I think it’s still my favorite. It’s simpler and less flashy looking then some but it side steps what a lot of free to play games do by IMO having what grind there is be reasonable and decent to play out. You can choose to pay for certain things like getting rid of ads, but it’s also not all that necessary because the ad only plays when ever you first start up the game again so it’s not constantly interrupting and pestering you, and the only other area is where there is one spot where there is a tiny banner with ads often for Kairosoft games and stuff but it’s fairly easy to ignore. After playing this I got disappointed by how in contrast Kingdom Story does a lot of the things that other FTP games do that annoy me with the grinding, gems, annoying pop ups, and pressure to spend real money, but Beastie Bay remains a fun monster collector, rpg/town builder/rollercoaster tycoon-like and a good user friendly experience!
