User Reviews

Users largely value the BACtrack device for casual BAC checks but slam the app for privacy-heavy account requirements, data handling concerns, and data loss after updates. Many report instability (crashes/bricks) and loss of useful features (countdown, sharing, notes) with poor data transfer from old versions. The hardware is viewed positively, but the app’s changes undermine trust and reliability for repeated use.
Pros
  • The device is useful for casual BAC checks and helps users make safety decisions when going out.
  • When it works, the app provides easy data logging and saves readings, delivering what users need.
  • Some reviews note the newer app version is faster and cleaner, improving usability.
  • The device/solution is appreciated for simple, straightforward monitoring in casual use.
Cons
  • Requires an account/login to use the device, which many users resent and see as unnecessary.
  • Significant privacy concerns about storing and sharing BAC data, risk of data exposure, and advertising network activity in the app.
  • Loss of historical data and failed data transfer after updates, causing important measurements to disappear or be inaccessible.
  • Frequent app instability: crashes, freezing, or being 'bricked' after updates, sometimes locking users out.
  • Removal of features (countdown when blowing, text sharing, notes) and poor backward compatibility with older devices/data.

BACTrack Mobile did a software update a few months ago (6-8 or so) and during that update they dropped (3) important and key functions of the backtrack mobile APP /!device that all use to be included with the purchase of the device. 1) self photograph or Image 2) GPS maps location of where the Breathalyzer took place with timestamp 3) an embeddable url link that you could share via text when sending results to other people. i.e. co-parents before or after custody exchanged. These were the reasons I purchased the device in the first place. Now that they did the upgrade, this functions are no longer available. You have to pay for their monthly plans at like $79.99 / month. So from free... to $80 or up to $120 month for some plans. From Free to $5 tor $ 9.99 / month I could maybe understand., but $80 bucks per month... absurd Disappointed customer

Bought a BACtrack device years ago. The app opened up and you pressed the button to blow. Now you have to agree to a wall of conditions, supply an email and a non-optional name. This isn’t what I bought. My fun device that I occasionally used with friends to estimate our BAC’s is now just another data tracking tool. Just let me open an app and use what I paid for like it did originally. At first I felt annoyed it required an app at all, but the app worked fine. Now it wants account login and name info and a history of BAC tests. No thanks. Wish I had bought a version with the screen on the side, no app required. I would have recommended this with the old app. But certainly not with the current version that needlessly requires your data and personal info.

What happened to the blow countdown and the ability to send results through text message? Terrible update.
