User Reviews

MoviePro is widely praised for its remote control capability with iPhone/iPad, transforming the device into a professional camera and offering a value‑driven perpetual license. Yet recurring issues around audio, stability, and offline/licensing constraints undermine reliability for some users. Some also note missing essential controls and UI quirks that affect consistency. Overall, it’s a powerful tool for many, but bugs and offline limitations reduce reliability for others.
Pros
  • Excellent remote control between iPhone and iPad (via MoviePro Remote) with full feature access and seamless connection.
  • Transforms the iPhone into a professional‑quality camera; widely praised as one of the best camera apps for mobile filmmaking.
  • Lifetime/perpetual license option (non‑subscription) provides good value for money.
  • Easy to use with a strong, intuitive interface that works well for remote shooting.
Cons
  • Frequent audio problems: some recordings have no audio, audio meters sometimes stop working, and audio can be out of sync.
  • Stability and playback issues: reports of crashes, black screens, playback failures, glitches, and long periods without updates.
  • Internet dependence and licensing problems: app sometimes requires internet to function, offline use is unreliable, and licensing/purchase prompts (including restore purchase) create barriers.
  • Missing or flaky controls: camera selector sometimes disappears, no histogram, cannot lock shutter speed or ISO, and settings reset on relaunch.

I’m an actor who constantly has the need to film myself for self-tape auditions. I found this app because I was looking for an app that would allow me to control my iPhone camera from my iPad (companion app called MoviePro Remote) I’ve been using these apps for a few years and still love them. When you pair your iPad to your phone you can control every feature as though you were standing behind the camera. This allows you to ensure proper zoom, framing and all the other things you can’t see if you’re having to tape alone, or want to be the one making the decisions. I will also say that recently, when an iOS update caused the audio meter bars to stop functioning, I contacted the developer and within 2 or 3 days of them responding, the issue was fixed. I can’t remember what the cost of the App and the Remote bundle is (I know it’s not very expensive) but it’s money well spent. *as a side note… I also just discovered there’s an Apple Watch app too. The remote is very delayed and only allows stopping and starting but it’s pretty cool if you need that option in a pinch.

This app is pretty good at taking photos, but when I try to record, it tells me I need to purchase the PRO version. Why is that? Why can’t I just make a video without paying?

I want to love this app so much as it does everything I want and more. But unfortunately there is one HUGE bug that has plagued this app since I began using it years ago. Quite often when I record something, the saved video has no audio. Im not sure why this happens, but without any way of knowing while Im recording that the app isn’t picking up audio, too often I’ve missed too many important moments.
