Features & Capabilities

HamAntCal is a 64-bit antenna calculator extension designed for amateur radio enthusiasts. It quickly computes starting lengths for Dipoles, Verticals, and Inverted Vees, with options to work in feet/inches or metric. It includes calculators for common lengths based on fractions (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 5/8, and Full Wave) and supports adjustable angles for the Inverted Vee.

Note: The calculator provides starting lengths and results are not guaranteed; you should trim with an antenna analyzer or SWR meter. It emphasizes safe building practices and advises leaving extra wire for trimming. The update history mentions 64-bit support and a refreshed interface, with optional features unlocked via in-app purchases.

User Reviews

HamAntCal is a quick, easy-to-use field reference for basic antenna calculations. It’s free, portable, and useful as a starting point, especially for field work. However, several users report iOS compatibility/update problems and question the accuracy for some configurations (like inverted V). There’s also a desire for higher-frequency support. When kept up to date, it remains a valuable, time-saving tool for hams.
Pros
  • Easy to use and provides quick results in the field
  • Very handy for field work; portable and can do calculations on the go
  • Free reference that saves time and reduces reliance on a calculator
  • Widely used and serves as a good starting point for antenna work
Cons
  • Compatibility and update issues with iOS; some users report it won’t work until updates are released
  • Accuracy concerns for certain antenna configurations (notably inverted V) and not always precise
  • Limited frequency range; lacks support for higher/UHF frequencies

This app is very easy to use and very quick. We enjoy using it in the field to make last-minute calculations to modify antennas and to update existing ones

This used to be a great app. But it has not been updated in awhile. This version will not work with IOS 11 until updated. This has since been updated, it is once again a great app. Thanks so much
