Features & Capabilities

MBTA See Say is a Chrome extension that provides riders with a quick, discreet way to report suspicious activity directly to MBTA Transit Police. It supports sending text messages, photos, and your location, with two easy options on the home screen: 'Report a Problem' and 'Call Transit Police.' Reports can be queued when offline and delivered as connectivity returns, and the design prioritizes speed by sending text data before photos to expedite police notifications.

In addition, riders can opt into MBTA T-Alerts for service delays and disruptions, and BOLO alerts may display important information such as missing-person sightings. These features help riders stay informed and support a rapid, safety-focused response by transit authorities.

User Reviews

Users praise MBTA See Say for real-time reporting, easy use, photo attachments, and alerts that boost safety. However, recurring issues include a complex emergency workflow, unclear follow-up on reports, misrouting of messages to websites, perceived lack of action, and occasional bugs (login validation, outdated delay info). The app is valued for immediacy and safety but needs UI simplification, reliable feedback on outcomes, and improved reliability.
Pros
  • Real-time reporting to MBTA Police / dispatch for quick safety responses
  • Easy-to-use and well-designed interface
  • Ability to attach photos to reports to aid police
  • Alerts and notifications provide safety and peace of mind
  • Public-safety value and usefulness for riders
Cons
  • Emergency workflow is too complex with many steps and isn’t intuitive in urgent situations
  • Unclear follow-up: users aren’t sure if reports are resolved or what happened after submission
  • Some report types (eg, comments/complaints) are redirected to a website rather than handled in-app
  • Reports sometimes feel like they don’t lead to any visible action, making the app seem ineffective
  • Technical issues such as login/email validation problems and outdated delay information

I like the idea of this app, but you have to go through too many steps looking for things that may be non-obvious for use in an emergency situation, especially if you need to use it without being obviously focused on your phone for a long time.

I have sent a few messages in, unsure if they were resolved or not. I recently sent a message choosing the “comment or complaint” option and was messaged back saying to use the website. I don’t understand why there would be a comment option if it leads to nowhere.
