User Reviews

Most reviews praise iLightningCam 2 Lite for catching lightning and delivering high-quality images, aided by auto-trigger and high sensitivity. However, timing delays, clutter from extra frames, unclear on-screen controls, and weak night-mode performance are common drawbacks. Reliability also appears device-dependent, with mixed results across iPhone models. Overall, a strong photo tool with notable UX and reliability caveats.
Pros
  • Effective lightning capture with usable photos.
  • High sensitivity with auto-triggering, enabling hands-free operation.
  • Produces high-quality, striking lightning images.
  • Works across a range of iPhone models, including older devices.
Cons
  • Shutter timing is often too late, causing missed bolts.
  • Unclear UI/controls (no visible capture button) and difficulty quitting on some devices.
  • Excessive or unpredictable frames: triggers produce many unwanted photos or duplicates.
  • Night mode is weak or inconsistent.
  • Reliability varies by device, with some models performing poorly compared to others.

This app creates three identical copies of one capture each time it detects lightning to make it seem like it’s catching more than it is, other than that it gets the job done and catches lightning so can’t complain too much

In the past I’ve had good results. I now have the iPhone 14Pro. We had a huge lightning storm last night and I got a thousand pictures of nothing. Very disappointing to say the least.

I used this on “auto” mode where it triggers by itself. Problem was by the time the shutter opened, the big visible lightning bolt had dissipated so all I kept getting was a background glow in the sky. Also, kind of a funny side effect with this app on iPhone XS (without the home button) is when I’d swipe up to go to home screen, it kept thinking I was changing one of the menus. Was hard to quit out of! Haha. Anyway as for capturing lightning, I had better results with a long exposure app.
