User Reviews
Pros
- Rich, author-curated climbing guides with extensive route information, photos, and beta.
- GPS/maps and offline navigation features that work in backcountry without service.
- Broad coverage including smaller or newer climbing areas, aiding discovery.
- Powerful filtering and planning tools to quickly find routes and areas.
- Strong tablet (iPadOS) experience that leverages larger screens for planning and viewing guides.
Cons
- Frequent crashes and freezes, making the app unreliable in the field.
- Cluttered, unintuitive navigation and a generally difficult UI compared to alternatives.
- Incomplete or outdated data (missing areas/routes, mislabeling, poor updates).
- Login, digital-copy access, and payment issues (duplication charges, PayPal problems, access frustrates).
- Perceived lack of ongoing maintenance and slow responses from support/authors.
Recent reviews
This app is extremely difficult to use, and lacks many of the features offered by other guide apps. The navigation requires background location usage and every time you open the app it insists on showing a splash screen even though it has my last viewed page cached.

I really like the idea but the navigation in the app is a nightmare. Why couldn’t they use the same interface layout as mountain project? There is collapsible menu after collapsible menu. I can’t handle it.

I don’t like the app it’s hard to use especially when compared to mountain project. The guide books are sometimes good and sometimes not, as some authors put more work than others. No good mechanism for correcting mistakes or leaving comments
