User Reviews

National Rail's app shows value for planning and price visibility but is marred by repeated ticketing failures, disruptive banners, and a clunky, less accessible UI. Users also report time/date inconsistencies and generally unreliable performance. Some praise remains for planning tools, price insights, and route details, but core ticket purchases remain problematic.
Pros
  • Helpful for planning journeys and remembering previous searches
  • Ability to see ticket prices and identify cheaper options on the same route
  • Shows a list of stops, platforms, and last trains for a route
  • Easy to use for everyday journeys for some users
Cons
  • Ticket purchasing failures and errors that prevent completing purchases
  • Obtrusive banner ads that interfere with navigation (and can feel like scams)
  • Clumsy, downgraded UI compared to older version; not intuitive to navigate
  • Accessibility and iOS compatibility issues (iPhone X/older/newer models), including poor contrast and layout problems
  • Time/date handling glitches (times shown incorrectly, 24h vs 12h confusion) and reliability issues

I downloaded this at the advice of my travel agent. I selected my journey and tried to by the ticket, but it wouldn't let me do it without a British post code, even though I had already entered my US zip code with my credit card information. So I thought maybe it would work if I signed up as a member, not realizing I had clicked on a banner ad for a "gaming" service! I foolishly gave it my credit card information & email address, but when I didn't receive the promised "welcome email" I realized that I had not signed up with National Rail at all. Two unauthorized charges in seconds. WTH??!!!

banner ads at the bottom of the page with unresponsive buttons to close them out prevent the user from actually being able to search train times and commit to purchasing tickets. If you have banner ads, don’t make them immovable over the one place users need to interact with to actually use your product. I hope whatever money “Temptations cat food” gave you was more valuable than me purchasing a ticket.

This has to be considered a downgrade. It’s clumsily. It’s not intuitively designed like the old version. Please discard this version and maintain the older version.
