User Reviews

PercussionTutor is highly praised for its authentic, well-recorded grooves and rich educational content, making it a strong practice and teaching tool. Users love the real performances, notation, and videos, plus the ability to mute parts and play along. Common downsides focus on tempo-related audio artifacts and the lack of per-instrument volume controls, with frequent requests for more rhythms and broader repertoire.
Pros
  • Authentic grooves recorded by real musicians (not MIDI), with long loop lengths and accompanying notation and videos.
  • Comprehensive learning toolkit: charts/notations, muteable parts, play-along tracks, and printable PDFs for teaching and practice.
  • Broad, culturally rich repertoire (Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Latin, and world percussion) with clear demonstrations and strong educational value.
  • High value and strong praise from users; considered worth the price and a must-have for percussion practice.
Cons
  • Tempo changes can introduce artifacts and pitch changes; improvements needed to preserve quality at faster tempos.
  • Lack of independent per-instrument volume controls; users want more fine-grained mixing options beyond muting.
  • Desire for more rhythms and expanded repertoire (e.g., West African, additional Brazilian styles) to keep the content fresh.

Great selection of impeccably recorded grooves, with notation and in well-written descriptions. So glad I found this.

I love this app!!! I use it for practice and to work through ideas for song writing. It’s my practice buddy, my play-along backing track, and my study partner. I really hope you keep adding more rhythms. This app is a masterpiece thank you.

Simple and easy to use, with great sounding loops by real musicians. If you're planning on expanding your Brazilian offerings, I'd love to see choro genres (slow choro, fast choro, maxixe, polca, xote, etc) plus forró! eBatuque recently jacked up its prices and switched to a subscription model, so if you guys offered an alternative I'd happily recommend this app to all the choro players I know.
