User Reviews

Drum Notes is praised for its quick rhythm-writing, educational value, and portability, with strong potential for teachers and students. However, users consistently report stability problems (crashes and data loss), playback/sound glitches (latency, accents), and feature restrictions (limited basic notation, free tier limits, paywalls). Improvements in robustness, easing notation, and more flexible pricing could unlock its full potential.
Pros
  • Easy to quickly compose and iterate drum rhythms on the go
  • Valuable for teaching and learning; useful for teachers and students
  • Portable and great for sharing and discovering rhythms or practicing with grooves
  • Free version provides baseline capability for quick ideas
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and stability issues
  • Limited/locked features in the free tier and expensive unlocks or account requirements
  • Playback/sound issues including latency, lag between notes, and inaccurate accents
  • Missing or restrictive notation options (e.g., no 8th-note option, basic notes only)
  • Data loss or project loss after crashes and some UI-related issues (e.g., playlists not appearing)

How do I write a whole note bass drum roll? Only see your basic notes???

Always needed something like this. An app that I can actually write out ideas in. Garage band would be fine except that you can’t do triplets and 16ths without making a new song essentially and it’s just overall not very user friendly. Great app for finding new stuff and writing out exercises you come up with yourself.
