Features & Capabilities

California Earthquake Faults helps you quickly locate earthquake faults based on your current location or a location you specify.

Features: • Interactive map view • Shows closest faults • Allows zooming in • Displays distances to faults • Quickly displays faults in the Bay Area, southern California and the state

The vast majority of California faults the USGS classifies as "Historic" (active in the last 150 years) and "Holocene to Latest Pleistocene" (active in the last 15,000 years) are shown. That includes over 115 faults and 248 fault lines (some faults have multiple fault lines). Faults classified as "Quaternary" (15,000 to 1,600,000 years) by the USGS aren't shown. Tapping a fault will display its name.

The locations of recent or historic earthquakes are not shown. Many other apps do that. This app simply shows the approximate locations of faults in California and distances to your current location or a location you specify. It is intended for people that live in California.

IOS 16.0 or later and an active WiFi or cellular service (preferably both) is required. It should work on iPhones and iPads released in the last 6 to 7 years. You’ll find more details at https:www.calfaults.com. Feel free to contact us at calfaults@gmail.com.

Great California fault map without having to spend lots of time web-crawling and trying to navigate the convoluted USGS sites. Would like to have more backup data, though, such as type of fault, history of related earthquakes, and brief, non-scientific narrative of relative likelihood for future EQ's. if you can add hazard overlays (e.g. Liquefaction zones, tsunami threat, unstable soils, etc.), I know MANY of us living in the zones will be quick to subscribe and tell our friends and neighbors. This is a good start - keep up the good work!

Pretty basic information every California resident should know. Wish it covered more than just California.

Nicely laid out and clear with a lot of data . My kids love finding the nearest fault line while we are driving around.
