User Reviews

Users generally value MyShake for its early warnings and safety benefits, with reports of alerts arriving seconds before shaking. However, recurring issues include false/distant alerts, lack of threshold controls, overly loud alarms, inconsistent reliability across devices, and inaccuracies in local event data. These concerns limit trust and usefulness, indicating a need for improved accuracy, configurability, and notification management.
Pros
  • Provides early warnings with seconds of lead time before shaking
  • Can be life-saving by giving time to take protective actions
  • Free to use, a readily available safety tool
  • Particularly useful in earthquake-prone regions (e.g., California)
Cons
  • Frequent false or distant alerts that wake users unnecessarily
  • No user controls to set minimum magnitude or alert sensitivity
  • Alerts can be very loud and disruptive, waking users in the middle of the night
  • Reliability is inconsistent across devices; some users don’t receive alerts
  • Inaccurate local information (epicenter/distance) or non-local alerts

I just exp the 2nd time this app notified me about an earthquake. Last time I got a Notification just seconds before the earthquake! This time, I received one about a minute after. I have both MyShake and QuakeFeed. MyShake is dependable, and QuakeFeed is for information. I’m very satisfied with MyShake app!

App frequently crashes at startup. Also disturbingly sends urgent “drop & cover” alerts for events far away, like M6 Mendocino temblor to Santa Clara County residents. Untrustworthy

I made the mistake of downloading this app & it got stuck open on my Home Screen forcing me to do a hard shutdown of my phone just so I could delete it. I am now concerned that it will still be active in the background after reading the horror stories in other reviews.
