User Reviews

Overall, users praise the app’s ride-sharing and feature-rich ride planning when it works, but repeatedly report that it fails in key ways. The most frequent complaints are unreliable connection to the bike and failing data sync, rides and stats not updating, frequent freezes or crashes, inaccurate vehicle location and mapping glitches, and login or device compatibility/subscription issues that prevent access to essential features. The result is an app with strong potential that is currently inconsistent and frustrating for many riders.
Pros
  • View and share rides with others.
  • Rich ride planning and tracking features (waypoints, routing, live weather) when the app functions.
  • App can display bike data/status and health when working.
Cons
  • Frequent bike connectivity and syncing failures; cannot connect or update rides.
  • Bike data/stats not updating or saving properly; location tracking often fails.
  • App freezes/crashes or stops working during rides; requires restarts.
  • Location accuracy and mapping problems (incorrect vehicle location, waypoint shaping issues, map glitches).
  • Login/authentication problems and device compatibility/subscription issues (login failures, 'device incompatible', paid features not functioning).

Web version and app version don’t sync up, missing rides, update 2 hours ago shows data from days ago. Thought it was only a hardware problem but clearly the app is unreliable as well. Fun gimmick but that’s all.

The Ride Command app has become significantly less useful for owners of older Indian motorcycles. I have a 2018 Chieftain Classic, and features that previously worked without a Ride Command+ subscription are now unavailable or grayed out. Vehicle information such as battery status, fuel level, oil information, and maintenance details is no longer accessible through the app. Owners of older Ride Command-equipped motorcycles also appear to have lost convenient functionality for transferring or downloading planned routes and maps from the app to the motorcycle. My motorcycle is still properly associated with my Ride Command account, and my tracked rides and planned routes remain visible on the Ride Command website. This suggests the problem is not simply an account or synchronization issue. Instead, the current app appears to have reduced or removed support for functionality that was previously available to older motorcycles. Indian should not make an app less functional for existing owners merely because newer motorcycles offer cellular connectivity and subscription-based services. Customers paid a premium for motorcycles equipped with Ride Command, and reasonable support for those systems should continue. At this point, the app provides very little practical value for my motorcycle. Removing or restricting previously available features without a clear explanation is poor customer support and reflects badly on the Indian Motorcycle brand. Indian should restore the older-bike functionality or clearly explain why it was removed and provide owners with an alternative.
