User Reviews

Overall, reviewers praise the GR Press app for convenient, portable access to local and broader news, easy navigation, and a flexible reading experience, including puzzles and the Sunday edition. Many see value in ready access to past issues and live updates. However, recurring concerns temper the praise: a perception of liberal bias and a desire for more balanced coverage; delivery glitches such as missing issues and weak search; readability issues from low-resolution downloads; pricing and heavy ads in special editions; and occasional UI/UX reliability quirks. Despite drawbacks, the app is widely used as a go-to local news source.
Pros
  • Easy to use and navigate on mobile (iPhone/iPad).
  • Quick access to past issues and live news, so you can read anywhere.
  • Wide content variety including local/state/national news, Sunday edition, puzzles and comics (with a hard copy option).
  • Flexible reading features: adjustable font size, save/share articles, and Apple Pencil support for puzzles.
  • Reliable local coverage with a balanced perspective and a weekend Washington Post supplement.
Cons
  • Perceived liberal bias and a desire for more balanced viewpoints.
  • Content delivery issues: missing/incorrect issues and lack of search for specific dates.
  • Readability/quality issues: low resolution when downloading articles and puzzles.
  • Price concerns: high subscription price and ads-heavy Thanksgiving edition content.
  • UI/UX reliability issues: portrait mode fit on iPad, non-intuitive icons, and occasional app glitches.

How about covering the Grand Rapids Griffins.

It’s quite obvious if this paper is far left of center in choice of topics to report and how they report them. There’s a very anti-republican tone to this newspaper. Editorials are frequently copied from the Washington Post and do not reflect the values of the West Michigan community. The Grand Rapids Press is not intellectually honest and rarely presents both sides of a topic. Very disappointing.

The Press is written with totally liberal slant covering up the truth of what is actually occurring.
