User Reviews

Users widely praise iCollect Books for helping avoid duplicate purchases, keeping an organized, searchable catalog, and adding cover photos. The paid version is valued by many for removing entry limits, and the app supports broad customization and sharing across households. However, several recurring downsides appear: a free tier with a 30-book cap and costly upgrades; concerns about data security and loss after hacks or device changes; bugs and syncing issues across devices that affect edits and images; and some frustrating search behavior (case sensitivity and exact-spelling requirements).
Pros
  • Helps prevent buying duplicate copies by tracking owned books and series.
  • Easy organization and quick cataloging with customizable fields and filters.
  • Allows adding cover photos for each entry, making the collection visually clear.
  • Paid version removes limits on the number of books and provides unlimited cataloging.
Cons
  • Free tier is limited to about 30 books; upgrades are pricey and not always clearly disclosed.
  • Accounts can be hacked or data can be lost, and transfers to new devices can erase or fail to import lists.
  • Cross‑device bugs and syncing issues (edits affecting other entries, images reverting on tablets, etc.).
  • Search and data entry limitations (case‑sensitive search, strict spelling required, some searches fail or require exact text).

The very first book I scanned, came up with the correct cover for the book. I am scanning, the description is for the wrong book. I’m scanning a vintage sunset book called kingdoms for kids, but the description of the book that comes up is for a story, not a how to, something completely different. I don’t know if that’s because I’m scanning a vintage book and maybe a newer book has taken over the ISPN? But I’m not able to edit the entry. I am able to edit the title of the book, but not the authors, and not the description. If this app is going to be useless for my vintage sunset books, useless to me in general because I’m mainly scanning vintage books.

I love this app for keeping track of my books because sometimes I forget which one I already have in a series and it’s nice to just be able to open my phone and be like ok I already have that one. Especially since I read a lot of manga. 🤣
