User Reviews

The Recipe Box To Go is praised as an easy, long-standing way to store and import recipes in one organized library with cross-device access. However, it is plagued by reliability issues, especially post-iOS 26: crashes or data loss, inconsistent syncing/sharing between iPhone and iPad, and updates that remove or hide features like sharing and the source field visibility bugs. Core functionality remains strong when it works, but reliability is the dominant concern across multiple reviews.
Pros
  • Easy to add and organize personal recipes and import from the web, all in one place.
  • Centralized library for both own recipes and web-sourced ones, making access convenient.
  • Cross-device syncing (iPhone and iPad) enables continued access across devices when it works.
Cons
  • Major crashes/not opening after the iOS 26 update, with reports of data loss (recipes disappearing).
  • Syncing and transferring between iPhone and iPad can be unreliable or broken, especially around updates.
  • Updates that remove or hide sharing features (e.g., share option) or block visibility of the source field.
  • Bugs related to the source field visibility and other UI changes bugging users.

We have been using this app for years and liked it…mostly. It’s going in the wrong direction. A couple of things that are a huge hassle: sometimes you can share it with another person and have the transfer work, and sometimes it doesn’t work no matter what you do. Another huge annoyance is that they took away the ability to easily text a recipe to a friend. That feature literally just disappeared. You’re supposed to get better over time, not worse!

I have used this app for years on my iPhone. For the most part, it works well except for clearing pantry items. I often find that they pop back up after I have cleared them. I can live with that, but what is really inconvenient is not being able to sync between my iPhone and my iPad. When I download the app onto my iPad, I was only able to get some of my recipes transferred, and same thing when I add recipes on my iPad - they do not transfer to my phone. Would love to figure that out because I don’t want to have to take my iPad to the grocery store when buying ingredients. And, I prefer using my iPad when cooking so both devices need to sync.

This app keep getting better and better. Clearly very smart people have created this and it shows with every update and change that is made. It’s just right.
