Features & Capabilities

The simplest and fastest way to learn geography. My Geography offers rich, region-based maps and interactive tools to explore the world. Maps include USA (Capitals, States, State nicknames, State flags, Cities), Europe (Countries, Capitals, Flags, Major rivers), North America, South America, Asia, Africa, World (Oceans, Seas), Australia (States, Territories, Cities), England (Counties), China (Regions), Canada (Provinces/Territories, Capitals, Coat of arms, Cities, Lakes and rivers), Mexico (States), France (Cities, Regions, Departements), Germany (Bundesländer, Hauptstädten, Landeswappen), Spain (Provinces, Regions). The app is designed to be educational and fun to use, with touch, pan, and zoom to explore maps from around the world.

Three learning modes help you practice: Exam, Learn/Practice, and Homework. In Exam you’re asked to locate a state, capital, region, or country and you’ll earn a score based on attempts. In Learn/Practice you can reveal regions as you learn, or hide them to test yourself. Homework lets you customize which parts to include and run the activity with only those regions, accelerating the learning process.

User Reviews

Users praise My Geography for clear maps, ease of use, engaging learning modes, and a helpful homework tool, but frequent complaints focus on incomplete or inaccurate data, spelling errors, and value for money. Requests for more country information, expanded coverage (including Oceania, US states and capitals), and feature enhancements are common.
Pros
  • Clear maps that aren’t overly colorful and are easy to read.
  • Easy-to-use interface with a wealth of geography information.
  • Multiple testing modes (e.g., hide names, locate on the map) for varied practice.
  • Engaging and effective for learning; users report rapid knowledge gains.
  • Homework/tool features are useful for assignments and classroom use.
Cons
  • Data accuracy and coverage are inconsistent: many countries are missing or incorrect across world/continent views, Oceania is incomplete, and US states/capitals are missing.
  • Spelling and labeling errors (e.g., Moldova vs Moldava; other country name/name-label mix-ups) can affect exams.
  • Perceived poor value for money due to data quality issues and missing content.
  • Requests for improvements and features (more country info, color customization, batch homework, and broader geographic content).

first thing i want to get out of the way, in the “world” section of countries, “Moldova” is misspelled “Moldava”, which certainly threw me off when it came to the written exams. but that does lead me into my next criticism, i think for written exams, you should implement a system that lets you know how close you are to the spelling, and maybe not even dock you points if you’re close enough (perhaps a misspelling warning, then docking points if you don’t get it right the next time). if you misspell a country, but are very close, it should let you know you’ve misspelled it, rather than just shaking as if you have the wrong country entirely. i maintain that you should definitely know how to spell and pronounce countries, however, i think forgetting “the” in front of “The Bahamas” shouldn’t immediately kill your streak, or having to correct how i spell “Moldova” to “Moldava” it’s mildly frustrating. if these changes were to be implemented, this app would certainly get 5 stars from me. it’s wonderful and i’ve learned the names of every country in about a week.

Very happy with this app all around! It’s easy to use and I really like all the functions. I’ve come back to it time and time again over the last couple years to keep on refreshing my geography knowledge. The only thing that I wish could be updated is that the colors could be randomized on the map. Sometimes you remember that Tanzania is purple, and that is too much of a clue. Is there anyway to randomize the color? Or are you considering an update?

I’ve only had this app for a couple of days but I have already learned so much. Very helpful and almost feels like I’m playing a game! Thanks for making geography fun.
