Features & Capabilities

DS finder lets you set up and manage your Synology NAS directly from your phone. It sends NAS-related notifications and gives you quick access to Synology apps, removing the need for complicated setup and heavy management. You must own a Synology NAS and run DSM 6.0 or later to access the full feature set. DS finder supports installing DSM on most models (rack-mount and desktop FS/XS series; EDS14 excluded).

User Reviews

DS Finder offers NAS storage visibility and power controls with quick access to DSM Mobile, but is plagued by reliability and UX issues. Users report login/authentication failures (including 2FA), intermittent connections and crashes, WOL limited to the local network, and inconsistent device discovery. Setup is often lengthy and the app lacks features like dark mode, landscape view, and encrypted share mounting. Overall, basic status checks work when the app is stable, but many reviews describe frequent problems that hinder everyday use.
Pros
  • Displays NAS storage status and allows power and reboot control from the app.
  • Loads the DSM Mobile tab quickly for quick monitoring and basic management.
  • Provides basic status visibility for quick checks when the app is functioning.
Cons
  • Login/authentication issues and cryptic errors, including 2FA problems.
  • Unreliable connectivity with frequent disconnections, false positives, and occasional crashes.
  • Wake-on-LAN only works on the local network; remote waking is not supported.
  • Inconsistent device discovery and certificate/domain login problems; NAS not reliably found.
  • UX and feature gaps: lengthy setup, no dark mode, no landscape mode, scrolling/package management difficulties, and limited ability to mount encrypted shares.

Good that it shows storage and allows you to power and reboot the NAS. However please add things like cpu, ram, nic, temp to the main app screen.

Although clearly connected to the nas, the nagging on screen message “server unreachable. WOL” remains on screen. Does this not work with ddns?
