Review summary

Users largely praise IDrive for reliable backups and easy restores across devices and fair pricing, with good support. However, reviews frequently cite reliability and performance problems (slow or failed backups and sync), instability and unclear status in the iPhone app, billing/auto-renewal frustrations, security/key-management concerns risking data loss, and various feature constraints (folder selection, reliance on Apple’s framework, no music backup, setup/firewall hurdles). Overall, the app is valued for its concept, but it has notable reliability, UX, and billing issues that appear across many reviews.
Pros
  • Reliable cross-device backups and easy restoration across multiple devices
  • Easy to use with straightforward setup
  • Competitive pricing and plans
  • Helpful support staff
  • Works across PC, iPhone/iPad, and Android, enabling access to backups from multiple devices
Cons
  • Unreliable backup/sync performance with slow or failed uploads and occasional outages
  • iPhone app instability, crashes, and unclear status/UX
  • Billing and payment problems including unexpected charges and auto-renew issues
  • Security/key-management concerns and account resets risking data loss
  • Feature limitations and platform constraints (cannot select folders, relies on Apple's framework, limited music backup, firewall/setup hurdles)

2026-07-02 b3***** I have been a satisfied iDrive user for many years - it is my primary backup solution for my Windows desktops. I was looking for a whole-device backup for my iPad to replace iCloud+ which i have “outgrown” (i.e. not enough space - sure, I could upgrade my iCloud to more storage, but why pay for that when I already pay for 5TB on iDrive, and have lots of room there for my iPad files?) But is appears that iDrive for iPad only does backups of photos, videos, contacts, and calendar - NOT files!! At least, I can’t find a way to make that happen - “Files” doesn’t appear on the list of items to back up, and I couldn’t find any online help which explains how I might do that. So, pretty disappointed.

2026-06-08 Ma***** The service is a good value, but the iOS app has several annoying issues: - It can get stuck in a loop trying and failing to upload media it already uploaded (clear the cache in the app settings). - IDrive separates “devices” and “computers”. From a billing perspective this makes sense, but not from a functional perspective. The iOS app should not be limited to “devices” when you also have “computers”. It all feels like an artificial segmentation that has nothing to due with billing. They just don’t have a cohesive and efficient solution across the device apps, web, macOS, Windows, etc. - the iOS app doesn’t back up documents, only media, contacts, and calendar. This may be Apples fault, I don’t know.

2026-02-20 Gr***** I just want to back up a given folder or SD card in a USB reader. The app won't let me choose a folder to back up! It insists on using Apple's silly media framework! Forget this, man.
