Features & Capabilities

Wake-on-LAN for easy wake up calls. Use your iPhone or iPad to power up a sleeping Mac or PC on your network.

FEATURES:

  • Easy detection of local computers with Bonjour and NETBIOS lookup.
  • Can ping your computer to check, when it it is ready.
  • Broadcast on a LAN.
  • Works from other networks as 3G and WIFI.
  • Can keep 30 configurations for computers to WOL.
  • Build in help guides.

HOW IT WORKS:

When you select a computer to wake, a special UDP data frame is broadcast on the LAN. When the sleeping computer see the data frame, it will wake up. If the iPhone or iPad is on another network, such as 3G, you must first configure the HOME router to forward the special UDP package.

User Reviews

Mocha WOL is praised for quick LAN wake, ease of setup, and being free with useful status feedback (ping until wake and online notifications). Reviewers also like the cleaner, updated UI and the ability to wake remote machines via router port-forwarding. Common drawbacks are a kludgy UI for some, inconsistent hardware compatibility (e.g., not all devices wake reliably) and limited WAN support (no IPv6; VPN/firewall issues). Some users also want faster wake actions. Overall it’s a simple, effective WOL tool with some UX and network caveats.
Pros
  • Easy to set up and quickly wake devices on the local network.
  • Free to use with no ads, offering good value.
  • Provides useful status feedback, including pinging targets until wake and notifying when online.
  • UI has improved to a clean, simple design that many users appreciate.
  • Works for remote wake via router port-forwarding, in addition to LAN wake.
Cons
  • UI can still feel kludgy or awful for some users, making for an inconsistent experience.
  • Limited WAN/Internet wake support and no IPv6; VPN/firewalls can block wake.
  • Inconsistent hardware compatibility (e.g., some devices work, others like HP-G6 do not) and some network setups fail.
  • Usability friction: requires several taps to wake and lacks quick-access icons on the main screen.
  • Occasional WOL failures likely due to protocol limitations.
Recent reviews
Works ok with HP-G1 and HP-G4 but not with HP-G6. YMMV.

The UI is a bit kludgy, but it’s a simple task. This app gets the job done. Can’t really ask for more.
