User Reviews

Basichords is praised for its fast, one-page chord view, easy access to multiple fingerings, and a wide chord library across ukulele, guitar and other instruments. It’s especially valued for ukulele chords. Major drawbacks are crashes when changing instruments and intrusive ads. Some users also want more chord types, like diminished triads and additional inversions. Overall, it’s a top chord app when stable, but crashes and ads are the key issues.
Pros
  • Fast, intuitive one-page layout for quick chord finding
  • Shows alternate fingerings and inversions on the side for multiple positions
  • Broad chord library including extended chords (dim, aug, sus2/4, 6/9, etc.) across multiple instruments (ukulele, guitar, mandolin, etc.)
  • Strongly favored for ukulele chords and broadly useful beyond uke
  • Widely regarded by users as a top chord app when it runs smoothly
Cons
  • Crashes when switching instruments or after iOS updates, making it unusable at times
  • Intrusive ads/banner interruptions (iAd banner) detract from usability
  • Some missing chord types/inversions (notably diminished triads) and requests for additional chords like / chord inversions (e.g., d/f#, g/d)
  • Stability issues reported across updates, with UI/behavior changes causing user frustration

I have always used this for uke, but I recently have been learning to play guitar. Unfortunately, the app crashes when I try to switch instruments. I can still use it for uke, but it will not work for guitar or any of the other instruments. Tap to switch=instant crash. ☹️
