User Reviews

Osmos is praised for its distinctive visuals, ambient music, and meditative yet engaging physics-based gameplay. Reviewers value its lack of ads and enduring appeal. Common criticisms center on a desire for more content (sequel/levels), some players finding the difficulty and controls frustrating, and occasional device-specific stability or display issues. Overall, the atmosphere and core concept shine, but content breadth and polish could be improved.
Pros
  • Visually stunning, unique graphics and art style that feel distinctive and polished.
  • Ambient, ethereal soundtrack that complements the gameplay and enhances immersion.
  • Relaxing, meditative gameplay that remains engaging and rewarding despite its challenge.
  • Innovative, physics-based core mechanic (orb absorption and space-based puzzles) that feels original.
  • No ads or in-app purchases with a straightforward upfront price, contributing to lasting appeal and perceived value.
Cons
  • Desire for more content: players frequently mention wanting more levels and a possible Osmos 2 or sequel.
  • Difficulty and control friction: some levels are very challenging and can be hard to master or frustrating, with retries required.
  • Device stability and display issues on certain hardware: reports of crashes on some devices (e.g., iPad Pro) and visual inconsistencies on others (e.g., some iPhone displays).
  • Pacing/content breadth trade-off: a subset of players feel the game is too slow or not enjoyable for their taste, despite the calming ambiance.

Many years ago I played this game on iPhone 4 and enjoyed it thoroughly. For its physics and its mesmerizing aesthetics. It was enjoyable to return to it perhaps 15 years later to discover that it is still an interesting mix between meditation, physics, biology, and musical periodicity. Odyssey now complete.

The visuals in Osmos have a unique and special style. Everything about the gameplay design is perfect. It is a very fine-tuned type of experience in the world of games. If you intend to purchase Osmos for kids there is a chance that they might find it too slow (it is a slow-paced action/adventure game but not too slow). The music appears to be standalone electronic songs that were not created with the intention of being used in Osmos but the developers have somehow managed to choose music that does not feel out of place when compared to music that was composed specifically for a game. Very impressive ✅.
