User Reviews

Overall, Falling Fruit is praised for its promising crowdsourced concept and occasional usable functionality, showing local edible locations on a map. However, reliability issues are frequent: login/registration crashes, location/map failures, and outdated data. Payment and subscription confusion add to frustration. Users also want better filtering and safety features. The app’s value depends on maintenance, current listings, and stable maps; without fixes, reviews describe it as unreliable despite strong potential for urban foragers.
Pros
  • Strong, appealing concept for crowdsourcing edible/location data for foragers.
  • When it works, it provides useful local edible locations on a map and allows area-specific searches for edibles.
  • Some reviewers report that the app can work well and be valuable for urban foragers.
  • The concept and potential have lasting value for the foraging community despite maintenance gaps.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and sign-in/registration issues, including crashes before login.
  • Location/Map problems: GPS not working, map often stuck on Boulder CO, location services nonfunctional, data not loading.
  • Outdated data with many listings from 2013–2014, indicating poor maintenance and relevance.
  • Payment/subscription problems: unexpected charges, unclear cancellation, and billing confusion.
  • Lack of useful filtering and safety controls (e.g., filtering out unsafe postings or unwanted plant types) and need for better search filters.
Recent reviews
I love this, I’ve been a fan of falling fruit for a long time. Just got an email saying the app was updated so I decided to give it a look. I’m a big fan of food foraging and geocaching. This is a great fun in between 😊 I haven’t come across any issues, and I feel the need to remind people that not every land zone grows the same or good fruit. Success depends on your area! I’m in Houston and the options aren’t incredible but certainly enjoyable.
