User Reviews

Users praise the TED Talks app for its quality content and overall usefulness, including the ability to save videos and accessible subtitles. However, recurring issues include frequent crashes and instability, especially on Apple TV, stale content that isn’t updated regularly, limited playback controls and unreliable transcripts, and missing navigation features like filters and queues. Subtitles improvements are noted as a positive fix, but core reliability and content freshness remain top concerns.
Pros
  • High-quality TED Talks content with educational value that many users appreciate.
  • Generally great and useful app for学习 and entertainment, with multiple reviewers calling it a good platform.
  • Videos can be saved easily for quick access (offline/quick viewing).
  • Subtitles accessibility improvements are noted positively, with fixes credited by users.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability across devices (iPhone and Apple TV), including playback freezes and app crashes.
  • Apple TV version is particularly problematic, with crashes during search and overall unusable experience.
  • Content updates are sparse or outdated, with talks and Shorts seeming stale and limited by 2023-era material.
  • Subtitles and playback controls are unclear or missing (e.g., enabling/disabling subtitles, playback speed for Shorts) and transcripts may not work reliably.
  • Missing navigation/organization features (no top lists, filtering, or queue) and an unintuitive UX; users want better browsing and classification.

Great app, but the “Read transcript” button doesn’t seem to work in this app. It works normally on the website version. I hope this bug can be fixed soon.

2026/04/03: I appreciate your thorough response, and understand the issues of having a small development team. As you said, hopefully, things will get better in the future, and the TV app will return to its former glory. I’m not a fan of using AirPlay – especially in my own home – just to use a streaming service; I only use AirPlay if I’m at someone else’s home/office to share content. But, thank you for the suggestion.

How am I supposed to enable/disable subtitles or change the playback speed? How is that genius behind the idea of menu buttons that disappear in half-a-second?
