User Reviews

Users praise the WSJ for strong, credible journalism and the valued audio-reading option, but repeatedly complain about the mobile app’s performance and access issues. Major cons include battery drain/overheating, autoplay videos disrupting reading, login/subscription problems with heavy paywalls, general instability and buggy updates, and spammy breaking-news notifications. Overall, content quality is high, but the app UX and access reliability need significant improvement.
Pros
  • High-quality, detailed, and trustworthy journalism presented well.
  • Audio versions of articles for convenient listening.
  • Long-standing WSJ credibility with consistent content presentation.
Cons
  • Battery drain and overheating on devices.
  • Autoplay videos and intrusive media disrupting reading and audio.
  • Login/subscription issues and heavy paywalls gating access to content.
  • App instability and bugs (e.g., jumpy scrolling, updates breaking features).
  • Push notifications for breaking news are spammy/intrusive.

Please revert to the prior crossword format. The new format took away the ability to easily navigate to the next clue, and replaced it with a clunky interface with small arrows requiring very precise touch points. Also allow the iPad native keyboard to be utilized. It is cumbersome to have to use a WSJ developed keyboard just to complete the crossword. Also, all crosswords now display “play” with no indication on “completed.” Please put back the completed denotation. Thank you.
