Features & Capabilities

Legacy app alert: Memory-Map turns iPhone/iPad into an offline GPS plotter with detailed topo maps and NOAA marine charts. Maps are stored on-device for use without a network, and your location updates even where there is no signal.

This version supports desktop planning and printing workflows through GPX import/export, tracklogs, points of interest, and multiple coordinate systems (Lat/Long, UTM, British National Grid, MGRS). It also offers moving maps, route planning, AIS/NMEA connections, and alarms. Note: please use the new Memory-Map for All app for the current experience.

User Reviews

Memory-Map is a feature-rich navigation app with offline maps and multiple chart sources, used by sailors, hikers, and hunters. It shines in waypoint routing, tracking, logging, and sharing trip records, with offline topo and nautical maps worldwide. However, reviews highlight drawbacks: map downloads are costly; maps may be outdated and bitmap-based with limited detail; performance can be slow or unstable (crashes when zooming); essential navigation features can be missing or unreliable; and there are compatibility/update issues on some iPad models.
Pros
  • Feature-rich navigation with waypoint routing, tracking and logging
  • Strong offline map support with pre-downloads and access to topo/nautical maps worldwide
  • Supports multiple map sources/types (topo, nautical) and depth views
  • Useful for real-world activities and easy sharing of trips (screenshots/logs)
  • Long-standing, widely used navigation app
Cons
  • Map downloads are costly and often required to use the app
  • Performance issues: slow zoom/pan and crashes in newer versions
  • Maps can be outdated and image-based with limited detail
  • Missing or clunky navigation features (entering coordinates, reliable built-in compass, occasional directional errors)
  • Device compatibility and update-related issues, including wifi-only iPad support and inconsistent support

I use this for deer hunting. I have my deer stands marked and the trails around the property. I use it extensively for navigating through the woods. I rely on it.

Memory maps does just what you want it to do. It does not try to get you to join social groups for competitive hiking. I can get topo maps and nautical charts, and when I am crossing a bridge, I can switch to nautical and see the water depth! You can set waypoints before a hike and save recorded tracks.

I've been using Memory Map for a few years now, and have found it easy to use, very handy for navigation, and also ideal for logging trips. I usually take friends along when I'm on the water, and keep the logging function active so that at the end of the day, I can do a screen grab of the trip and email them a record of it - which they always appreciate and enjoy sharing with others!
