Features & Capabilities

Monologue makes journaling feel like texting: type and send notes that get grouped by time, so your entries resemble chat threads. You can reply to older entries and organize related notes into stories for easy storytelling.

It supports commenting on webpages in Safari via the iOS Share extension and keeps everything private on-device—your entries never leave your phone.

User Reviews

Users praise Monologue for its clean, minimalist design and its unique timeline, text-message style journaling that makes it easy to capture thoughts quickly. The ability to revisit and reply to past entries is highly valued. Common requests include adding images, cloud backups/export options (PDF/JSON, iCloud), and addressing privacy concerns. Occasional bugs are noted. Overall, the app’s strength lies in its interface and journaling approach, with growth centered on feature enhancements rather than redesign.

Rarely do I write reviews, but this app truly deserves one. Thank you to the developers for creating such a wonderful, convenient, and minimalist journaling app! It helps me keep track of my state of mind. I would love to see a feature for adding pictures, but even without it, the app is already remarkable :)

Sometimes I write everyday, sometimes I’ll go weeks. Sometimes I write so much from far away it probably looks like a story. I haven’t wrote my thoughts out most of the holiday season and now that it’s the new year I’m back, it feels almost like a craving. I’m not sure what it will satisfy, hopefully I’ll know down the road. Thank you though for this.

I absolutely love this app and I hope it doesn’t go away. Feels like having a conversation across time. The interface is lovely and the timeline view makes it feel like you’re having an interdimensional conversation with yourself across time. It’s by far the best journaling app I’ve used. It amazes me that no other app has this lovely timeline / text interface feeling. It really gives you insight into your thoughts across the years. I love it.
