User Reviews

Music Studio is praised as a beginner-friendly mobile DAW with a rich instrument library and on-the-go workflow, including the ability to create custom sounds and compatibility with Cubase. However, reviews note recurring Bluetooth/audio output problems, stability crashes after updates, and a lack of recent maintenance or a macOS version, plus inter-app audio/transfer frustrations. It remains beloved by long-time users but may be risky for those needing current maintenance.
Pros
  • Easy-to-use, beginner-friendly mobile DAW with an intuitive interface
  • Large variety of instruments and the ability to create your own instruments
  • Long-standing app with strong on-the-go workflow and cross‑compatibility (e.g., works with Cubase; iCloud sync)
  • Popular choice for hip‑hop/beat making and general music creation
  • Valued for its portability and enduring usefulness over many years
Cons
  • Persistent Bluetooth/airplay audio issues (AirPods/AirPlay) across updates
  • Stability problems and crashes, especially after updates
  • Lack of timely updates and support (old last update, no macOS version)
  • Inter‑app audio and cross‑app transfer/workflow limitations

I have been using the app since it first appeared, and have it on both my iPhone and my iPad. I have purchased all of the instrument packs over the years, and this has given me a solid, portable foundation from which to compose. Whether using the phone to just get something down as inspiration strikes, or the iPad, when away from home, being able to send my work between the two devices is a breeze. With the wide array of effects, from global, to track level, and effect send capabilities, this software has made it hard for me to move to anything else, due to the simple, intuitive interface. That simplicity comes with a lot of power, including the ability to record or import your own samples, and map them across your own virtual instruments. Real-time and step time entry, from then on-screen, sizable keyboard or an attached MIDI keyboard, makes this the perfect solution for me, and I have used this setup for many years now. Its interface invites experimentation, and supports creativity in an intuitive way. There is a limited function, free version, which is how I started, before falling in love with this app. When it comes to the perfect balance between power and simplicity of use, Music Studio nails it.
